Network marketing is a very interesting industry and it’s one that has so many people doing the wrong things that it gets funny. Ponder this for a moment… have you ever met a person for a few minutes and then you get proposed to? I don’t know about how others would react but I, for one, would surely think that it’s ridiculous.

However, many people who try to promote their network marketing industry, commit that very same ridiculous mistake. Upon meeting a prospect for the first time, they ask that person for a lifetime commitment to them. Here’s some examples that you might find a little familiar:

1. “Join me because my team is the best”
Does this sound like “There’s no better man/woman in this world for you than me”? Obnoxious…

2. ”This product will change your life”
We all know that giving samples is really shooting randomly and hoping for a hit.

3. “We’ve been friends for so long, you know you can trust me!”
Without a doubt, this is the scariest, most pressurizing and also, effective tactic – because people treasure friendships and sometimes, just don’t know how to reject.

I’m sure there are many more examples that people are doing wrong these days – that’s not how you do a business! And that’s certainly not the right way to do network marketing.

The correct way of network marketing is simply understanding what those that phrase means… to market… to a network. I don’t have to explain what a network is but marketing is the main keyword that many people tend to skip over. A quick check on Wikipedia states that…

“Marketing” is the promotion of products, especially advertising and branding. However, in professional usage the term has a wider meaning of the practice and science of trading. The American Marketing Association (AMA) states, “Marketing is an organizational function and a set of processes for creating, communicating and delivering value to customers and for managing customer relationships in ways that benefit the organization and its stakeholders.” (emphasis added by me)

Before you start selling to your prospects, have you first delivered value to them? Learn to first give value to your prospects and customers before you get them to commit on a long term successful networking business.
