Home Business Tips: Successful Internet Marketing Step Five
Welcome back, feel free to comment!

When you plan to sell something on the internet, many people fall into the mistake of selling by facts and feature. In fact, I’ve fallen into it and countless people have committed that mistake. You may or may not be spared of such a fortune but the truth is that in this world that we live in, there will always be better salespeople and there will be people who are broke.
So, what’s the next tip for having a successful home business? Tell stories.
The world’s best story teller is undoubtedly Jesus Christ Himself. His most famous sermon was called the “Sermon on the Mount” and it was a collection of stories told to the people because it brought so much color and vividness to the people who heard His stories.
The world’s best-selling books (other than the Bible) are books that have stories in them. People love stories - just think about it, all the best-selling books have stories in them. You can’t find a single book that doesn’t have a story and it’s selling like hot cakes. It’s like you can’t laugh and be angry at the same time. Why do stories work? It’s fun, it’s disarming, it’s engaging and it can be very convincing.
Remember a simple line: Facts tell, stories sell.
Jack Canfield had best-selling books that were basically collections of stories by people – he called it “Chicken Soup for the Soul”. Mitch Albom had a top-selling book that talked about a subject that many people were afraid of facing, which is Death. ”Tuesdays with Morrie” – a story about a professor’s dying days.
Many a home business owner, when they try selling their products or market someone else’s product online, they start speaking about the features of the product. For example, if the product was a very unique umbrella, the home business owner would probably say that the umbrella he sells has stronger materials, better designs, greater value and so on and so forth. If I were to sell umbrellas? I’d throw in a story into it, begin with the origins of how I first discovered the usefulness of umbrellas, discovered how a simple adjustment to the umbrella added more lifespan and durability to it, decided to research into how to not wet the floor of my home because after a heavy rain, the umbrella would create a puddle of water and how I was “gently” encouraged by my wife to deal with the problem.
Use stories. Once upon a time lasts forever.
