Short-Articles-versus-Long-Articles

If you have been involved in article marketing and have bought several article marketing books, there’s a good chance that they are telling you to keep the articles short (somewhere in the 300 to 400 words region). Then, there are others that are supportive of the longer articles (around 800 words and up) for best results.

This is very confusing to people and also a contributing factor to people having writer’s block.

So which is the answer? You’ll learn why there’s the short VS long article debate and the answer to which you should use.

Short articles are better because:

1. People have short attention spans
2. You can generate more articles

Long articles are better because:

1. You can explain concepts in detail
2. More questions can be dealt with

Now, which is the article length you should use? For the answer, you need to consider a couple of factors.

1. Where are you submitting the article?

When you submit your articles, it’s important to have an understanding of the average article length in the other articles.

Do a bit of research by searching the rest of the articles in the niche that you are submitting your article to. If most of the articles are short in length, you’ll want to submit your article with a length about that length.

There are article directories that frown on long articles and also, despise short articles. So you’ll need to look around to get a feel of it.

2. What is the “other” goal of your article?

Of course, the goal of the article is to get the visitor to visit your web site but often, there’s also another goal to achieve.

If you are planning for exposure, short articles may be the way to go. If you plan to showcase your expertise, longer articles with clearer explanations may work better for you.

Understand the “other” goal and it will help you to clarify if you want to submit long articles or short articles.
