As a public speaker, you will often face challenges to get your message effectively across clearly to the audience. For public speaking, it’s also a chance for you to showcase your expertise and possibly get more sales if you’re selling something.

Here’s 7 Tips for You to Communicate Better In Public Speaking.

1. Body Language
You may have heard of the 7-38-55 Rule where 7% of effective communication is done with words, 38% with the tone of voice and 55% through body language.

So, if you want to communicate better, you have to learn how to use body language to communicate with your audience to have a jump start to success.

2. Eye Contact
Eye contact is extremely crucial to your success. When you are speaking to a crowd, whether large or small, you’ll want to fix your eyes at a certain group of people.

You can also choose just one person in the audience to speak to and focus on him or her. Of course, don’t stare.

When you are talking, fix your eyes on a certain group of people and direct your speech towards them. After you’ve “talked” with them for about a minute or two, you can shift your focus to another group as you move on to your next point so you engage the audience.

3. Take It Slow
This is pretty relative because everyone is different. However, when you take it slow, what I mean is to slow down the speed at which you are used to speaking… this is especially true if you are a naturally fast speaker.

When you are speaking fast, sometimes, your mind is racing to keep up. Taking it slow allows your mind to craft the right words for you to use to get your message across more clearly.

4. Speed Up
Have you been speaking publicly and you see more and more people gradually getting bored or tired? How about if the people you are talking to privately start to lose interest and have that blank look?

This could be a clue that you need to speed up to get to a pace where you are able to transmit your message as well as hold the attention of your audience.

5. Turning Up The Volume
When you are speaking publicly, turning up the volume really helps you sound professional - either mechanically or physically increasing your voice volume.

Not shouting, of course. But when you speak loud and clear, there’s an impression that you are proclaiming something that people should listen to.

If you’re concerned about being too loud - in comparison to being too soft - it’s the lesser evil.

6. Use of hands
Using your hands is part of learning how to use body language.

For example, putting your hands in your pocket while you are talking portrays different things - it could mean you are comfortable or nervous, have something to hide or look authoritative.

You don’t want to be using too many hand gestures because that might not work to your advantage. Use your hands for emphasis by using them in appropriate moments with your speech.

7. Give and Take
When you are communicating as a public speaker, you want to have a give and take approach to it.

For example, a “give” public speaker is like a university professor giving a lecture. There’s a lot of information but people might get bored with all the information.

A “take” public speaker is like a person drawing attention to himself by talking about his life story and his accomplishments. He draws a lot of attention to himself but the listener may not benefit as much and may lose interest.

A Give and Take approach is to mix both strategies together. You give information and mix yourself in by giving your own story or accomplishments.

In essence, you have to be confident when you are doing public speaking. Often times, if a speaker is new and not confident, the audience can smell it like fat kids to fresh fat food. Use these 7 tips, be confident and speak!

Embedded MP3 Audio Player

This tutorial uses the Audio Player Wordpress plugin from 1pixelout. Please download the .zip file from that site. You will need to unzip the files and use two of them:

• player.swf (this is the audio player)
• audio-player.js (this is the JavaScript)

These instructions concern using that player on non-Wordpress HTML pages.

You must have some Web space that you control (that is, server space) to which you will upload these files as well as your audio files

If you are using Internet Explorer, you will probably need to click the player twice to make it play. (All other Web browsers will let you click once.) If you do not see the MP3 player, then you don’t have the Flash player installed. (More than 90 percent of all Internet users do have it.)

Tutorial

For this tutorial, let’s imagine that your server space is at this URL: www.fakedomain.com/myname/

1. Create a new folder on your Web server and name it “audio”
2. Upload the two files for the audio player (player.swf and audio-player.js) to the audio folder.
3. Upload an MP3 file to the audio folder. For this tutorial, let’s assume your file is named music.mp3. (NOTE: The MP3 file must be encoded at 44.1 kHz, or 22.05 kHz, or 11.025 kHZ; any other sampling rate will result in the “chipmunk effect,” which you really would not like.)

Now that your three files are uploaded, they reside at these URLs:

• http://www.fakedomain.com/myname/audio/player.swf
• http://www.fakedomain.com/myname/audio/audio-player.js
• http://www.fakedomain.com/myname/audio/music.mp3

The next step is to place the HTML for this player on the Web page where you want it to appear. Change the URLs shown below to match your own URLs.

1. Refine Headlines

The first and arguably, one of the most important parts of article marketing. Your article titles need to be eye-catching and interest-seizing. If your article’s title isn’t able to capture the reader at first glance, you won’t have a chance of getting your content read. Much less getting the desired click in the resource box.

For example, in an article directory, titles are vying for attention. Effective titles mostly have elements like mystery, benefit driven, niche specific, being provocative. So when you are writing your headlines, you have to place a lot of emphasis on refining your headline title so you get maximum chance to get your article read.

2. Search Engine Friendly Title

When you submit your article online, it’s essential that you learn how to maximize your article by making it search engine friendly. And by that, it means that you’ve got to have a bit of knowledge about what Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is. Having just the basic knowledge of SEO will give you an advantage over most of the other article marketers who have no idea how to use SEO.

The result of creating a search engine friendly title is to have your articles found more easily on the search engines. If there’s 5,000 people who found your article online, even if you have just a 10 percent chance of people clicking through (known as the clickthrough rate or CTR), you can have 500 potential leads/prospects coming to your site from that one article.

3. Cool Content

Nobody likes to read old, rehashed and senseless material. For example, have you come across an article that had a tip like this? “In order to make money online, you must have an internet connection.”

Well, of course! That isn’t a tip, it’s common knowledge. Don’t insult the intelligence of your reader and sully your expert status with something like that. When you create content, be sure to make it cool, relevant, applicable to the reader. One very simple way to do that is to create your article in a conversational tone and place the focus on the reader by using “you” much more often than “I”.

Speak to the reader through your articles and let the reader feel that he will benefit and learn something of value from reading the article. Entertaining your reader through your articles

4. Short, Skimmable, Sleek

Short articles work to your advantage online because people are easily distracted online and it’s easy for them to click away from reading your article if you’re not able to answer their questions quickly. However, this doesn’t mean that you should drop longer articles.

Skimmable articles are important if your article has a longer word range such as 800 and above words. If you do create such articles, be sure to use headers, bullet points, ellipses, dashes to improve readability. Many people skim (which is taught in some speed/scan reading courses) to get a general idea of what the article is about before deciding to dive into it.

Sleek articles mean that there’s a flow in how you portray and express your information to the reader. This is important because what you want to do is to have people click on the links in your article to visit your web site. Create a natural flow in your article that draws the reader to want to click through to visit your site.

5. Process of Proofreading

Proofreading your articles result in a better read for you as well as protecting yourself as the author of the article. When you create your own articles, doing a simple spell check will help you clean out any spelling problems. However, word processors won’t be able to tell the difference between “your” and “you’re”, “there” and “their”.

But humans can.

You don’t want to lose a potential customer or client just because you made a single typo that could have been easily avoided by proofreading. Also, it’s best to get an external person to read through the article. The information that you have in your article will sound or look perfectly okay to you, however, that doesn’t always apply to the reader. An external person reading that article will be able to highlight to you which part might need more explanation or where there’s a mistake.

6. Get the Click

This is the main mission of your online article and you want people to be visiting your site. A common mistake made by many is to try to stuff as many links in the bottom of the article. Here’s a bad example, “Visit my site (link) for more dog training tips. If you want to know about cat food tips, visit (link). Learn about parrot training here (link)”.

When you are creating the link to your site, you want to keep it as simple as possible; it’s recommended to have all your links pointing to the exact same site. Tell the visitor what your site is about with the anchor text.

Also, you can also use link bait to get people to visit your site by telling the reader you are giving away something like a free report, free book, free course, free audio, free video, et cetera. Entice the reader to visit by giving them something that’s relevant to the article in

7. Army of Articles

Having a lot of articles online is only going to be beneficial to your online business. If you keep creating articles, you will eventually have a great winning article with a lot of views or a high clickthrough rate. The key is creating articles and keep learning, keep improving until you attain the level of result that you desire from your articles.

And once you have that winning article, find a way to repeat that success.

Developing your writing skills is equivalent to training yourself. And when you developed yourself into an article marketing expert, you’ll be able to churn out great articles again and again with relative ease.

Now, we all know that email marketing and building a list is a great way for your own online business - in whatever niche. And know that a blog is a great place for you to share your knowledge and get people to interact.

So why not combine the two together? Before that, let’s do some analysis and find out how they can complement each other when you’re dealing with your prospects or customers.

First, let’s look at email marketing.

Pros:

• Build up relationship between you and the prospect/customer
• Regular updates of new information
• New offers and promotions are sent to your prospects/customers

Cons:

• Limited to text and some graphics
• You can’t get feedback from your prospects/customers
• Not recommended to have long and bulky letters

Next, a look at blogging.

Pros:

• You can use very nice graphics, videos, audios
• Prospects/customers can leave a feedback via comment
• You can have longer blog posts to share more information

Cons:

• Your prospects/customers may not want to visit your blog all the time
• You may get no visitors when you create a blog post of value
• Blogs may take a long time to load depending on your server or the widgets you have

Now, let’s get on with the 3 good reasons of why you should combine both together so that you can have the best of both worlds in your email marketing as well as for your blog.

Reason #1: Bite-Sized Information

There’s a common tendency to want to overwhelm and impress the prospect or customer with a long and lengthy email. It’s not wrong, I believe that the long emails and courses are due to the “provide more value” concept. However, not all of your prospects and customers is going to be that patient with you.

Try doing a word count before sending out your email. If it’s about 800 to 1,000 words… that’s a lot of information and text. How do you fix this? Simple, take the whole chunk of information, put it into your blog. Then, with the exact same article, use about 250 or 300 words and send that in your email.

At the end of the email, you can simply put a statement like “Click here to get all the juicy details” which will lead to, you guessed it, your blog post.

To encourage your prospects or customers to click through the link, in the email that you send, you want to give them an idea of what they can expect to get from the full article by using bullet points.

Reason #2: Conversations Help Everyone

For there to be real value to the prospect or customer, they want to know that they are dealing with a knowledgeable person. Someone who can help solve their problems and help deal with their issues. When you send out an email of good value and you bring them to your blog, they can tell you what they think in the comments.

What’s more, you can also interact with them by commenting back! That’s the whole point of having a blog for your online business - an interaction between you and the prospects/customers.

And when a new prospect sees the blog post with several comments, you’ll get to benefit from it because the prospect will see that you are a genuine person dealing with real people.

Reason #3: Increased Your Perceived Value

Besides using the email to showcase your expertise, when you use your blog, you can also use various videos and audios to bring across your message better.

There’s a rule of communication - “7%-38%-55%”.

In communication, people make decisions based 7% of the time on the words you use, 38% on the tonality of the words and 55% on the body language.

By using emails, you are only making use of 7% of better communication with plain text. Sometimes, if you attach audio, you get an additional 38%… which adds up to 45%. And that can be done with your blog as well. Plainly using videos allow you to better communicate 55% - which is awesome.

The best way is to use text, audio and video together all in one post. Have all your blog information in one post, include a video of the blog post and you can even include yourself if you want for best results.

I’m going to give you an outline of the decisions you should make to help you choose the right affiliate program in this article. Don’t worry if you can’t remember the whole outline, as time goes by, you’ll be able to ask these questions naturally as I have as an affiliate. Let’s begin.

1. Is there a cost involved in joining as an affiliate?
2. What is the frequency of the commission payment?
3. How much is the minimum pay out?
4. What is the conversion ratio of the sales page?
5. How long will you stay credited for the sale?
6. What are the affiliate statistics available for you?
7. Is it a one tier, two tier or multi tier program?
8. How much is the commission?
9. Who are you promoting?
10. What is the refund rate?

First, is there a cost involved in joining as an affiliate?

Most online affiliate programs offered today are free of charge - if there’s a cost involved in joining as an affiliate, find out if there’s any benefits for you if you do become an affiliate yourself.

Next, you also want to know the frequency of the commission payment.

There are affiliate programs that pay you automatically and there are those that pay in different timings - once a month, twice a month, quarterly, et cetera. The great thing about affiliate programs is that you get paid automatically, the drawback is that you need to fulfill the terms and conditions. Which brings me to my next point…

How much is the minimum pay out?

Some affiliate programs require a minimum earned amount of commission before the check is issued out. Sometimes, there is also a minimum requirement of a few different credit card purchases - this is to protect the product owner if someone purchases with his own credit card to get a huge discount via the commission payout.

What is the conversion ratio of the sales page?

This is an extremely important information to you as an affiliate. The conversion ratio gives you an idea of how many people you have to send to the sales page in order to generate a sale. Experienced product owners should have already done the testing themselves so they can tell you the conversion ratio of their sales page.

How long will you stay credited for the sale?

It’s common that people DON’T buy on the very first visit to the page. So, you want to know how long will the duration be. You need to be confident that you will be credited for the sale when people you send to the program either buy now or later.

What are the affiliate statistics available for you?

This is another important piece of information that you should know. A good affiliate program will be able to give you detailed information about how many people have seen the sales page with your affiliate link, how many people have bought it, how many impressions made with the banner or text link, et cetera.

If you have a lot of hits on the sales page with your affiliate link and no one is buying, you might want to reconsider either sending more targeted traffic or changing to promote another program as the sales page is not converting for you - either as a software issue or the sales letter issue.

Is it a one tier, two tier or multi tier program?

One tier means that you are paid for the first purchase. A two tier means that you are paid for the first purchase and if someone who has bought as an affiliate you’ve sponsored recommends someone else to buy, you also get paid for that sale. A multi tier program means that you get paid for several levels even after the second tier.

How much is the commission?

This is the FIRST thing that people usually look at but I put this point so far down here because this is a “blinding” factor for many people. Affiliate programs can pay very high percentages on the first sale (like 70% to 80%) but if there product is $7, you’ll be paid only $4.90 or $5.60.

If the product though is about $100, even if the commission is 50%, you get paid $50.

So, do your due diligence and calculate how much you will make per sale. It makes more sense to promote something that pays you more, doesn’t it?

Who are you promoting?

If you are using pay-per-click or any other paid advertisement to promote the affiliate program, this may not be that important to you. However, if you are using blogging methods or using a list to send people to the affiliate sales page, this question is important to you.

Because your name is attached to the recommendation, it’s important to find out if the person’s product that you are promoting is an honest business person with good values and information. People automatically link your name to the other person that you promote.

Lastly, what is the refund rate?

This is also important to know because if the product is horrible or of low quality, there will be a high refund rate. If you’ve been promoting a product with a high refund rate, all the commission you’ve earned as an affiliate will go down the drain once there’s a refund.

Not to mention that your name will also be tarnished because you promoted a lousy product to people who have placed a trust in your recommendation if you promoted from your list or blog.

The sole mission of search engines like Google is to help people to get what they are searching for. Therefore, knowing how search engines work is important to you because if you know how they work, you can turn that to your advantage.

This is a process known as Search Engine Optimization (SEO). If you are able to optimize your website properly, you will be able to present your website to more prospective customers than you might be able to handle - but I’m sure that’s a good problem for you to have!

Search engines use complex algorithms and software to index websites, these search engine robots are called crawlers or spiders.

These spiders work by visiting your website, reading all the content that they can find, following the links that the site has and then, heading back “home” to the search engine with all the information where they submit whatever they’ve absorbed. That’s where the data is all indexed.

Here’s a characteristic that’s present in all search engines that you should take advantage of… all spiders are always hungry. Spiders love new, unique information and will return to the search engines telling them that they found a new source of “data food”. If you update your website regularly, search engine spiders will come back regularly to your website and crawl through your whole website, thereby indexing everything and submitting to the search engines anything new they find.

What else do you need to know about how search engines work?

You need to know that you can’t “cheat” the system. Some people try to rank highly for their website by having a webpage filled with the keywords. For example, if someone wants attention to himself for dog related stuff, his webpage might be filled with words like dog food, dog training, dog grooming, et cetera.

It’s important to note that this is known as keyword stuffing or spamdexing - this WILL hurt your online business. Learn how to create information that is easily readable and enjoyable for humans first, and then optimize the information so that the spiders will rank you for the keyword that you are trying to rank for.

While it’s possible to manipulate the search engines with keyword stuffing early on, the search engines will find out about it and catch on fast, it will hurt your online business with something known as the Google Slap.

A Google Slap simply means that your website gets “buried” in the organic/natural search engine search result pages (SERPs) or the price of advertising rises sharply from say, a few cents to almost a few dollars per click in PPC for Google.
