Interview with Gerry Cooke
Welcome back, feel free to comment!
Who is Gerry Cooke? A little insight about Gerry (as quoted from his website) – a person dedicated to the success of the disabled home business owner and network marketer. I was born with a physical disability which has given me a certain amount of perspective in itself as to some of the challenges people with disabilities face with their daily life and starting their own business.
Throughout my life I have had the pleasure of holding several interesting positions including assistant to probation officers, co-bank manager, run my own network marketing business, customer service representative and as well for the past 8 years owner and CEO of Three Quest Inc.
Three Quest Inc. is a company 2 partners and I started around the patented “Terminal Madness” game. The company has expanded the product line to include products in the medical and educational markets.
I enjoy meeting new people with different skill levels and tools to network with and making friends all over the world. I am here to help you with your personal and business goals.
1. Hello Gerry, could you introduce a little bit about yourself and what is it that you do?
As a person with a physical disability I want to bring to the table a unique perspective on business and provide people with information that they can use to make their business and lives more successful.
Two partners ( Doug and Louise Cooke) and myself own an offline business. A business that started with the “Terminal Madness” game and has evolved into a line of 6 unique products including some products in the medical and educational markets. We have recently secured an overseas investor and we are all very excited about the future of Three Quest Inc.
Online I am the owner of a business that I am dedicating to the success of the disabled home business owner and network marketer. A business where I will be sharing my thoughts, inspiring stories, ideas, experiences on a variety of topics including business tips and tools that people can make use of immediately to build their own business.
2. Why did you choose to be involved in this particular niche of business?
I chose this particular niche for two main reasons; because it’s a huge unknown market. People in the disability community have so many great thoughts and ideas that often are overlooked for one reason or another. Secondly, It has always been my dream to help as many people as I possibly can be successful whether that be with their own business or their lives in general.
3. What are the challenges you have faced in your business?
The main challenge I have faced with our offline business venture is funding because it is a huge expense to build a business around a new product idea.
In my online business the main challenges I have faced are the “me” factor as I call it and finding a system that works.
4. How did you overcome your challenges and ordeals?
In both instances with our offline business or my online business I have overcome my challenges through a change of attitude and persistence. Let me explain the best I can.
In our offline business venture having persistence has allowed me to keep going from meeting to meeting to meeting until we was able to find the people that brought us into contact with the person who is now our investor. If we had given up and not persisted after a meeting or 2 or 3 we would have never found an investor for our company and products.
With my online business by having persistence and utilizing social media sites like Twitter and Facebook, I have been able to meet people that share my vision and come into contact with my good friend and mentor.
5. What do you think is the most important criteria for success in a business?
It’s difficult to narrow success in business down into a single characteristic but in my opinion I would say that both attitude and the willingness to stick to your venture until it’s a success are very important.
With the right attitude a person can get around or go through any challenge that comes their way and by sticking to your dreams and goals you will eventually meet the right people for your team and all the other pieces of the puzzle will seem to magically all fit together.
6. Why do you think so many people fail in their own businesses and how can they avoid such a fate?
I believe that anyone can build their own business to a successful level but from what I have seen and have experienced there are 4 main reasons I believe people fail in business.
People often do not have a well thought out plan and they often give up too easily.
Another reason is because people tend to start a business or project and quickly switch what their doing to the latest, newest and hottest idea or trend that catches their eyes.
Last but certainly not least people don’t search out and find a mentor, a person that has a proven track record of success, a person that shares their vision for your business and believes in you and your ideas.
7. Any other tips you would like to impart to our readers?
One of the best tips I can give you for your business is “if you have a good idea to just go for it” and find the people that are out there that can help you make your business the success you want it to be. No one knows everything about everything but someone has the answers you are looking for.
8. Thank you very much for your patience and for sharing the great information in this interview. Where can people go to find out more about what is it you do or what you offer?
People can find out more about me on my blog at www.gerrycooke.com or on Twitter @GerryCOnline
