Feeling Uninspired?

As a blogger, video blogger, article marketer, copywriter or whatever… there are times when you will feel uninspired to create new content. You know that you need to be creating something but you’re just drawing a blank.

You’re not getting any kind of inspiration to do what you know you must do… so how do you create content when you don’t feel like it?

Here’s an A to Z list of tips that you can use to help you with creating useful content when you just don’t feel like it.

An A-To-Z List On Creating Content When You Don’t Feel Like It

  • Ask what people want

The best way to create content is to find what what people want. If you know what people want to find out, you can not only easily create great content, you’ll also be appreciated for your efforts.

  • Blast from the past

Check back to the past work that you have done. Is there anything that you can improve on or you have got new ideas that you can add to the mix?

Why not create that new content by filling in the loop hole that you see in your previous work?

  • Comment about something

Everybody has an opinion about something (that’s why there are so many active blogs and forums!). So, what you could do is to simply watch a video, read an article, listen to the news or something and then give your comment about it.

See if you can relate it back to the topic that you’re creating the content for – it could very well be something useful.

  • Destroy distraction

Here’s what you do: Switch off every single thing that has any possibility of distracting you. Turn off that email reminder. Disconnect your internet connection. Switch off your cell phone, hand phone or pager.

Whatever can distract you – get it away and then just focus on a sole mission to create your content.

  • External forces

Doing something totally unrelated could very well ignite that desire to create your content as well – if you’re copywriter by profession and your client doesn’t provide you with the material you need, you’re going to have to get creative and just start.

  • Feedback

You can ask someone else about anything at all and copy their question down.

When you have that question, answer it and that could be your new content. Be as specific or detailed about it as you possibly can. You’ll have a nice chunk of change to use!

Google Trends can give you a good idea of what’s hot right now and what people are searching for. When you create your content based on that and you submit it, you could be getting some quick targeted search engine love!

  • How? Why?

Ever wondered the origins of something or why something got started?

Maybe a little research into the subject matter could give you more material to create something with.

  • Insert something here

This is one of the best ways that I use when I am stuck in a mind jam. Let’s say I’m writing an article… I will literally write [insert awesome title here] and then I begin writing whatever comes after that.

  • Just Do It

If you’re uninspired, just do something. Anything. As long as you don’t stay in a state of being unproductive. Do something – anything!

  • Killing yourself?

Hey, the world’s not going to end just because you didn’t create something that can totally change someone’s life. Relax a little, chill! Put down that burden and get a breather before trying again.

  • List of something

Just like what I’m doing with this article, you can also create an A to Z list of something and let your creativity fill in the blanks for you. It doesn’t have to be an A-to-Z list, it can just be a top 10 list of anything.

  • Music

Music soothes the soul. Could you be needing music to help you create content? Stephen King writes with loud rock music blasting away in his ears. Maybe you need loud music to soothe your soul too?

  • New deadline

Some people simply work better with a deadline – if you impose a new deadline upon yourself and make it a habit to meet the deadline, you’d be surprised what you can come up with to meet it.

  • Openly ask yourself

… why you’re feeling uninspired.

Record yourself or write something giving all the excu.. err.. real reasons in the world why you feel uninspired. Once you get that out of the way, you can start to create your content.

  • Physical checklist

Using pieces of paper or cardboard and writing down the things that you need to do in a checklist can also help you to create content.

When you do something like that, it helps you to visually see what are the things you need to do so your mind is not clogged up with too many “to-do” things.

  • Quotes

Have you ever been inspired by a quote? Why not create a content around that quote? Because some of the best information has been summarised to a few words, taking that quote and expanding on it while relating back to your topic could really help!

  • Read

What are the materials that you have on hand at the moment? You might want to check out some older material or the newspapers to read so you can get some ideas to create new content.

  • Social bookmarking

Sites like Digg, StumbleUpon, Technorati, et cetera are filled with new content that people are loving. Why not leverage on that to create some content as well?

(pssst! How about Digging or Stumbling if you like this post, yeah?)

  • Trash worthy material

Often times, you could very well be trying to create something that’s perfect right from the very start – you’ve got a lot of pre-formed plans in place and that could be stopping you from creating something, or anything at all!

Be willing to write material that nobody will ever, ever read. And when you’re done with it, feel free to trash it.

  • Unite several content

This is a great way to create content – mix and match a few stuff together and voila! You’ve got new content that’s repurposed.

This can apply to videos, blogs, articles, compiling reports, et cetera. The possibilities are endless.

  • Video fun

Why not talk about a certain video that you just watched? Or seek out the top most watched videos that’s related to your topic and borrow that as your next content?

I’m a Batman fan and if you check out the website, which is an online marketing promotion for The Dark Knight – you’d be surprised how many domains they bought and how much effort they put into each one.

Have some fun there and then put a smile on your face!

Get in the right state of mind (oh, the irony) before you begin again.

  • Xanthomelanous

I went and found a random word that started with X.

You can do something totally random and then insert that into your content too! It brings some freshness to the usual stuff that you might be bored with.

(I think that word is actually describing an ethnic race… amazing huh? Imagine someone asking what’s your race and you say “Xanthomelanous” – they’d be like “HUH?”)

  • “You-can-do-it-You-can-do-it-You-can-do-it-You-can-do-it-You-can-do-it”

Chanting to yourself that you can create something might help (I don’t know, I heard it helps, never tried it though).

  • Zzzzzz…

Maybe you just need to take a break because you are bogged down with too many things. Take a well deserved nap before starting again.
